Foot candles are the most common unit of measure used by lighting professionals. A foot candle is a measurement of light intensity defined as the illuminance on a one-square foot surface from a source of light. Hallways and corridors require a minimum of 5 candle-feet of light. The standard of 30 foot-candles is the minimum lighting requirement for an office space.
